Coming down off an
Acid trip
With my friend Corny
At 4 in the morning
In New York
Somewhere in the east sixties
All of a sudden
Fred Gwynne walks by
He didn’t have plugs
In his neck
Or a scar on his forehead
Or any of his makeup
From when he played
Herman Munster.
But it was Fred Gwynne
All right.
And no jokes about
Being on acid and my
Judgement being impaired.
Maybe you wouldn’t
Want to operate
Heavy equipment
Or fly a commercial plane
Or talk to your principal
On acid.
But as far as
Recognizing Fred Gwynne
At four in the morning?
No problem.
He was carrying a bag
Of groceries.
He was tall and
Moved along briskly.
Maybe if you go through life
As Herman Munster
You learn to move along quickly
Just so the autograph hounds
Aren’t all over you.
Or maybe he just
Walked briskly.
He was a big guy
With long legs.
I’m not sure if he was whistling.
The impression was
The same as if
He had been whistling.
It was 4 in the morning
In the east sixties
In New York
And Fred Gwynne
Was having
A fine life.
What's a yute?
I’m pretty sure Lily Munster’s dad was a skunk.
